Usha
Since you mentioned about the difference of viewpoint or the very concept of KM within the same organizations,I just wanted to add one more thing.

The view about KM is sure to differ for different person within the organization because KM serves different purposes for various strata within the organization.

But if we see at the Holistic level, it is like the "Brain" of the organization with each data as the neurons which keeps learning.

Crux of KM: continuing with the analogy of Brain neurons with the KM.We know that individual neurons do not have any significant value but it is the network of neurons that brings the element of intelligence to the brain. In the same way the collection of documents in tree folders(rather silos) are not going to help in anyway ,infact the KM tends to become a huge wasteland of decaying documents. The Real KM comes alive or becomes intelligent enough to really solve the problems when RELATED DOCUMENTS and RELATED PEOPLE and POWERFUL GOOGLE LIKE SEARCH and A STRONG NETWORKING and MOST IMPORTANTLY A USER-CENTRIC FEEDBACK SYSTEM (to weed out the old knowledge or update the knowledge) elements come into play.

In short , for having a KM within the organization , we need to refer to the Anatomy and workings of the human brain.

Thank you Usha for views.
Yes I accept your point of view. A lot many times I came across personally while providing KM consultancy services to organizations, top management and front line KM implementers have different views and tastes of KM. It seems everybody has their own VISION for KM. So failing to have a common and concrete vision towards KM the organizations face hurdles implementing KM.

In addition to this, I personally feel KM is not something from which one could get value instantly but it takes a fair amount of time say 2-3 years to see some results coming out.
We need to have delayed gratification while implementing KM.

i think the top management from the organisations are sure that KM can give them competitive advantage and so all of them wish to initiate KM in their own organisation from all industries from manufacturing sector to service industries, from SSI to corporates.
But I guess when it comes to implementation of KM somewhere their knowledge on the concept or something else(I'm not very sure) between the top management and a KM professional differ drastically which results in KM future ahead in our country.

In short, by implementing one facet of KM such as content management, change management, just having a KM strategy in place, one cannot acclaim that KM has beeen implemented and is being successfully carried in in the organisation.

So, i feel if this is the case the organisations pursue KM, then our future is in dark.

P.S: it's my opinion-might not be true. please comment.
